Shimano TR5 triathlon shoe

This is a "cut down" version of the Shimano TR9. In what way it is cut down is not clear, though. This one supports both SPD and SPD-SL cleats (note that neither is recessed) so if anything they have more features than the TR9.

What is the difference between cycling and triathlon shoes? The triathlon shoe has some small drill holes in the bottom to allow water to drain (it has a thick mesh covering to protect your feet), the velcro folds outwards so you can leave them on the bike and they have loops at the back so you can fasten them to the back wheel with an elastic band for a running mount.

These are comfortable enough to ride without socks over at least a standard distance triathlon.
